Esa Lonka Will Be the Next Labour Mediator
11.06.2009 22:40
Labour minister Tarja Cronberg has appointed Esa Lonka as a new national conciliator. Lonka has worked in the national conciliator's office since 1987, most recently as district conciliator.
Lonka was the unanimous choice of the main labour market organisations, after a drawn-out process as the previous favourite for the job withdrew.
Lonka begins a four-year term later in August when the current mediator, Juhani Salonius, retires after 12 years in the job. Lonka often took over negotiations from Salonius when there were disputes ongoing at one time, and when Salonius on leave.
